Twenty years ago today, on June 4, 1989, Chinese army troops stormed Tiananmen Square in Beijing to crush the pro-democracy movement. Hundreds – possibly thousands – of people died. This video of Tank Man remains one of history’s most iconic moments.
…and today we have a good collection of Gadlinks. Check these out:
- In related Tiananmen Square remembrance news, The Week reports that China is trying to censor the public’s use of Twitter and other social media today, thereby controlling the information distributed online about this historical day. As expected, people are not too happy about this and are finding ways around it.
- Don’t you love cloud formations that resemble life in some way? Is it a bird, is it a plane? Open Travel calls them “whales in the sky.”
- My cinema girl Eva reports a “Where’s Waldo” film is in the making and astutely connects Waldo’s wanderings to World Hum’s 2009 Traveler of the Year, Matt Harding.
- Summer is here! I know we all want to trim our waistlines, but at least once this season you can binge a little, right? On RC Cola, clams, garlic, pierogi, or lobster, perhaps? BootsnAll offers a great list of summer food festivals to indulge ourselves in.
‘Til tomorrow, have a great evening.
