Could it be me or does the man’s foot look like that of a baby or airbrushed? It looks perfect and almost soft to touch, but seriously everything grabs me about this photo. Every part of me wants to cut and paste myself into the scene and pretend as if I were on the boat sailing somewhere – anywhere. I can’t promise my feet would look as nice as the model or photographer found here, but you wouldn’t be paying attention to that after all with the blue water and the sunset out ahead. Sweet shot out of Australia, Kouiskas.
Fat Teens to Live off the Land in Australia
A group of portly British teens are about to visit Australia’s outback and live amongst the Aboriginals in a twisted new reality show.
“Fat Teens Can’t Hunt” places ten overweight teens in an eat-or-die situation in which they will hunt, kill, and then consume their daily meals instead of just getting them supersized at the nearest McDonalds.
According to a Reuters report, the kids will “survive for a month on ‘bush tucker’ including witchetty grubs, local berries and grasses.”
Grasses?!?!
Geez. I’m not sure if this makes me laugh in a sadistic sort of manner, or actually feel sorry for these poor mopes.
Nonetheless, we all know that the outside world will sit back and laugh their collective heads off as some blubbery teenager chases down a flightless bird and consumes it squatting on his haunches.
Isn’t reality television just great!
Photo of the Day (4/30/07)
This is fun stuff from our Gadling Flickr photo pool. An artist painted over a waterfall fountain backdrop in Melbourne. The fountain was shut off, due to drought. But, as they always do, the rains came. Check out the full-sized picture, here.
Blind Pilot Makes Successful International Flight
If there’s one thing common to all adventure travelers, it’s the drive to overcome adversity. One British man exemplifies this spirit — flying 13,500 miles from London to Sydney even though he’s completely blind.
Under the supervision of a sighted co-pilot, Miles Hilton-Baber took to the skies for 59 days in a microlight aircraft, competing with snowstorms, freezing temperatures, and torrential downpours. When the trip was completed, not only had Hilton-Barber fulfilled a life-long dream, but he’d also raised a possible $2 million for Seeing is Believing — a charity that works to prevent blindness in developing countries.
And if you think that’s impressive, you should also know that he’s climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Blanc, run marathons in the Sahara and Gobi deserts, and made an attempt at the South Pole. This man is proof that people really can do anything they set their mind to.
Flying Manta Ray Video
OK, this is probably not what you were expecting. The video here has nothing to do with the graceful, broad-winged mantas we know and love from diving (notice the diving category is NOT selected).
Instead, what you will see here is yet another breath-takingly extreme sport from Oceania (I specify Oceania here because it seems a great many of these sports – i.e. Bungy Jumping, Zorbing — seem to come from both Australia and New Zealand). Anyhoodle, this video of a new flying behind a boat device is way cool. My guess is that no pilot’s license is required, but steel cojones are.
