Give a listen to this fantastic NPR story about
underwater scientist and explorer George Bass. Bass is widely acknowledged as the father of modern nautical
archaeology. He came up with the concept of applying techniques of dry-land archaeology to the underwater environment,
which led to the discovery of the world’s oldest shipwreck. Give a listen, a real cool story.
Audio Essay on Paris
Another audio indulgence from NPR. In this
audio essay, Writer Helmut Sorge talks about the experience of grocery shopping in his cobblestoned Paris
neighborhood. A place where famous artists like Monet, Van Gogh and Picasso once painted.

Great
POTD today of a smiling ray…I thought at first this had been photoshopped. Alas, no, that ray is actually smiling.
But what about? What would make a ray smile? Perhaps because it’s finally getting WARM!
Wetpixel Bahamas Shark Expedition
Well, you had your chance. You could have joined up with the Wetpixel Bahamas Shark Expedition where you might have dived with sharks, shooting them with your spanking new Digi SLR. Fantastic shots for all the world to see. But you didn’t. Me neither.
But hey, you CAN at least go to Eric Cheng’s Web site – Eric runs Wetpixel, you might remember – and you can check out the photos of Cheng and Gang there. It is not the same by anny stretch as being there yourself, but the photos and the daily ruminations by Cheng are, as always, quite good.

There are several incredible dive photos on
today’s POTD site, but the one I am posting here
was, I thought, one of the more remarkable ones. There are actually a lot of great photos and articles at this site
from Fathoms Magazine, including some trips that you can sign up for if you’ve got that diving urge.
