Surfing and Yoga in Central America Anyone?

Solaz Adventures co founders Andy Dunayczan and Erik Wilhelm feel they’ve stumbled on a
winner by founding a travel adventure company offering weeklong trips to Costa Mesa and Mexico that “combine luxury
accommodations, surf lessons, daily yoga practice, and massage.”

The connection between yoga and surfing apparently has to do with the yoga sessions helping to “improve focus,
balance, and awareness, important skills for surfers of all abilities.”

Other activities include plenty of gourmet food, beachfront accomodations and cultural explorations.

SG Mag – Surfer’s Delight

A buddy of mine, a surfer in the Bay Area, brought this online version
of surf/skate/snowboard magazine SG to my attention, saying it’s a great
source for articles and photos oft frequented by female Bay Area boarders. I checked it out and liked it. There’s also
some video, profiles and a section called Babewatch…which has nothing to do with infants. Or girls. Remember, it’s a
chick mag.

Kiteboarding Magazine

If kiteboarding is already your addiction, then you probably already know all about
this magazine. But if you’re new to the sport and want a site that gives
a taste of what kiteboarding is all about, you should take a look at the Kiteboarding Magazine site. The site has bios
on the top boarders in the world, gear recommendations, sweet video with shots of guys pulling amazing moves on their
boards, some of them touching the sky. There’s also news and events about all things kiteboarding. The
gear section has a break down of the anatomy of a kite that
I found really interesting. It’s done nicely in flash with a real elegant, racy feel. I am still trying to get my head
around how cool this sport is.

Billabong Odyssey

Big Wave surfing. It is now so popular it’s basically mainstream. 60 Minutes did a piece
about Laird Hamilton, for Hell’s sake. But none of that detracts from how very cool is
this video for the
Billabong Odyssey documentary. The
contest is for whichever surfer can surf a 100 foot – yes, 100 foot – wave. This is mind-blowing stuff. Shot in the
water, from copters, underwater, the footage is like nothing you’ve ever seen. These waves are monsters and more often
than not can be found out in the middle of the ocean, rather than on the coast. These could be some of the ballsiest
guys on earth. Check out the Billabong site itself for some sweet pictures and bios on the participants.

Some Stuff for Kiteboard Fans

Kiteboarding is one of the fastest-growing adventure sports out there, and it’s no wonder when you watch these guys
hurling themslves into the sky tethered to nothing but a kite. I’ll post some of the best kiteboarding stuff I find,
and will start with some of the excellent kiteboarding videos
here and
here. There are a bunch of kiteboarding events this
winter…or um summer, since so many of them are in Australia. You can catch up on some of the
events here at the Professional Kite Boarders Association
site. There’s also interviews with some of the top-ranked kite boarders in the world and a link to the
cover shots of numerous kite board
magazines from around the world. Yes, there will be more.
