Funny Airport Security Cartoon

Everybody has their own idea about how airport security check in rules will be in the future. According to this Globe and Mail piece Jay Leno recently joked that we’ll soon be lining up at airports fully nude in our finest birthday suits. (Please, God – no!) While I was at an India.Arie concert last week she too commented on the whole snafu thinking all white cotton will be the new travel inspired line for airport check-in. Whatever the future looks like I’m hoping it doesn’t come in the form of a ball and chain as seen in the cartoon above , also from the Globe and Mail. Just thought it was a cute cartoon to start off your Monday and work week. If you’re traveling today – may the force be with you.

Cheers!

Orkney’s Hot

Scotland’s Orkney Islands have long been a place I’ve been dying to visit. Isolated, peaceful, rugged and beautiful, they strike me as 70 miniature Irelands just waiting to be soaked up and enjoyed.

According to The New York Times, however, alternatives are slowly developing to appease those who might bore of such peaceful tranquility. This is good news for the 6,200 people who live in Kirkwall, the capital. Instead of watching the proverbial paint dry, locals and tourists alike can now visit a handful of recently opened pubs and nightclubs that are changing the dynamics of this small town.

Restaurants and fashionable shops round out the mix and transform little ‘ole Kirkwall into a fun place indeed. It ain’t New York City, but it’s a far cry from the Orkney Islands of the past.

Effects of Terrorism – New Airline Restrictions

Ugh, it’s Friday evening and here I am riding the bandwagon by putting my teeny blog piece on the possible long lasting new airline restrictions in place at the moment into the blogosphere. Before the month end I’ve got a few airports to fly in and out of and I’m already dreading the process. Double UGH! What it must be like for the real Road Warriors/Business travelers out there, I don’t ever want to imagine, but reading this CNN article takes you there, man.

By this time we’ve all probably heard the no liquids, no beverages, no lotions and no hair gel restrictions, but how much further will it go? A friend of mine flying back home from Europe tomorrow tells me they won’t be allowed to take any carry-on luggage on the plane at all. What a nightmare! Think if they really were to keep a restriction like no carry-on luggage in place for a while. Longer waits at baggage claim would only be the beginning.

Anybody out there just getting in or out of an airport with all this commotion happening? If so, tell us what airport did you flew through and what the situation was like.

Tour Prince Charles’ London Home

After the chaos caused by the gang of knuckle-headed terrorists (I’m being kind) cools off over in London, it may tickle your fancy to take a walk up to the Clarence House. For those that follow royalty as if were a part of their very own family heritage, the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall are allowing visitors to tour their London digs. The 19th century stucco mansion will have tours up until October 8 and by appointment only. Admission for adults is somewhere around $13 and children must give up $7 of their monthly allowance to be able to step inside.

In addition to forking over their hard-earned change children must be clean; clothing pressed – without a wrinkle; hair-slicked back – extra gel; well-mannered and delightful little souls to say the least. Oops, so the last few requirements were some of my own, but if I were Princess of Duchess allowing the general public to view my residence I’d have rules more strict than the most uppity of nightclubs and two doors men named Brutus and Fidel. Just so no one gets any ideas.

It should be a pretty cool tour for those who make it there in time to see the Clarence House.
