Some people love winter sports so much, they don’t give a hang if there’s an absence of snow. Check out this epic video, where a group of shredders hit the Utah Salt Flats for kicks at speeds up to 50 mph. The boards were supplied by snowboard company BLANK; no word on who handed out the road rash salve.
Video: San Francisco sky over a year
The San Francisco sky is one that I particularly enjoy. There’s something about the ratio of gray clouds to blue skies that works for me in regard to the Bay Area (and that’s why, perhaps, I’ll be spending more time in that area over the next year). This time-lapse video says what I’m trying to say better, though… because it shows you. Take a look at this video, which was shot over the course of a year. A camera was installed on the roof of the Exploratorium Museum in San Francisco and a photo of the sky was taken every day for 365 days. This is unlike most time-lapse videos I have come across; many of them span over a shorter length of time and the photos are taken at closer intervals. This project was effective, however, in providing an easy way for viewers to glance at a year’s worth of San Francisco sky in just a few minutes.
Video of the day: Seanna Sharpe performs illegal acrobatics show over Williamsburg Bridge
Aerialist Seanna Sharpe 285 Feet Over The Williamsburg Bridge from Ronen V on Vimeo.
Aerialist Seanna Sharpe took a few chances when she climbed the Williamsburg Bridge in July 2011 to perform an illegal acrobatic show for pedestrians beneath. She risked her life, we’d probably all agree, while flailing from the bridge’s beams 285 feet up connected to a white sheet by only her own acrobatic skills. She also risked getting arrested by NYPD officers and, as it turned out, she did get arrested. But the show she put on was spectacular and reason enough for dozens upon dozens of New Yorkers to halt their moving feet on their trek across the Williamsburg Bridge that day. Seanna Sharpe moved beautifully through the air that day in New York and the above video is a compilation video featuring footage captured by several onlookers. Is this the kind of “street performance” you’d stop to watch? I certainly would.
SkyMall Monday: Clocks
We’re a culture that’s fixated on time. We schedule meetings, play dates for our kids, parties and dates. We’re hyper-aware of the time. Here at SkyMall Monday, we have our days scheduled right down to the minute. We keep clocks on the walls, watches on our wrists and smartphones handy to check the time no matter where we are in the ol’ HQ. Our lives can get pretty chaotic this time of year, but you don’t have to let the holidays get the best of you. Stay calm, organized and precise and you’ll not only get through the holidays but also get your whole life in order. Thankfully, SkyMall has clocks for every personality and decor. Let’s take a look at some of the best options. We’ve actually covered some clocks in the past here at SkyMall Monday. You can’t go wrong with the Day Clock (unless, of course, you need your clock to tell you the actual time). Meanwhile, the Message in Time Clock allows you to haunt your family members. For coffee drinkers, the TimeMug kills two birds with one stone.
SkyMall doesn’t stop there, though. It has clocks for everyone:
Irrational Numbers Clock (pictures above): Your underachieving middle schooler will be late for school in no time!
Math Clock: See above.
Target Clock: I’ll defer to the product description on this one:
To make it stop or snooze, the sleeper must sufficiently awaken, grab the laser gun, and hit a bull’s eye. Includes 2 other shooting games for target practice.
All joking aside, this is awesome. However, I think we can all agree that it should be a paintball gun and the target should be your significant other who, if hit, has to turn off the alarm for you. The welt will remind her all day that you love her.
10.5″ Reel Clock: Perfect for film lovers who like to roughly estimate the time based on the vague location of the clock hands.
Fishing Effects Clock: From the product description:
Each hour is announced with fishing sounds: line casting, water splashing, and more.
Perfect for the bathroom.
Original Bird Clock: Let’s migrate over to the product description:
The 13″ Original Bird Clock features 12 of the most recognized birds in North America.
A different bird song announces each hour with live recordings provided by Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology.
Save your obscure birds for some other clock. I want to make sure I can easily recognize the sound when it’s a quarter past Tufted Titmouse.
Classic Glory Clock: Haunting. Disorienting. Capable of stealing our souls. Isn’t that how we want to describe our clocks?
Peaceful Cosmos Entertainer Clock: See above and watch this video instead.
Anthology Legend Clock: See above, add lights and you have yourself some nightmare fuel.

New travel show features Zach Anner, host with cerebral palsy
Earlier this year, Oprah’s OWN television network ran a contest soliciting video entries for hosts of a new television show. The contest earned 143 million votes and a multitude of entires, but one in particular went viral. Zack Anner, a Texas native with cerebral palsy submitted a wacky, light hearted video pitching a show about travel with his condition. His video was a mixture of self-deprecation, clever production and genuine, happy hosting, and as a result the votes poured in.
Not surprisingly, Mr. Anner won the competition, and his show, Rollin With Zach went into production. The OWN network just released a trailer of the series which features the host traveling across the United States covering the nation from a local’s perspective. At large, the new travel show beings on the Oprah Network this week. The first episode airs Monday, December 12 from 8:00 – 9:00 p.m. ET/PT.
