I’m a vegetarian, so the sight of these chickens in the window elicited a very strong gurgle from my stomach. Before college, however, I was a meat-eater. I didn’t have my first salad until I was 18. My parents would frequent Chinatown, and I would gawk at the meat in the window in a similar fashion as I am now.

I love Peking duck. I miss the taste of crispy skin with that tangy sauce on a steamed rice bun. When I lived in Beijing one summer during college, I would have Peking duck every weekend. That was the real deal. I miss fresh Chinese meat.

This appetizing (to some) photo comes to us from jerry.r.lem. The steam in this Bostonian Chinatown store window, the triad of colors, and the obscure meat on the right just makes me want to take a stroll in my neighborhood Chinatown and remember the good ‘ole days, when Mom would buy bok choi for less than a dollar, Dad would treat us to dim sum, or I could watch rice noodles being made through the Look Fun window.

Marine arrested at Logan airport with gun, ammo, rocket engine and detonator

A US Marine was arrested at Boston Logan airport yesterday when baggage screeners discovered a gun, boxes of ammunition, three rocket engines, various fuses, switches and the detonator from a hand grenade.

The Marine was on his way from Las Vegas to Charlotte when the discovery was made.

Now, carrying a gun in your checked baggage is not against the law, as long as you declare the item, which he had not done.

Carrying the kind of explosives found inside a rocket motor is not permitted though, and the Marine is currently in custody of the state police awaiting a court visit later today.

The most amazing part of the discovery is that it was made entirely by accident – the airline had inadvertently routed his bags to baggage claim instead of to his connecting flight which meant they had to be screened again.

This also means that screeners at Las Vegas airport completely missed the stuff.

Thankfully, the TSA says they will “actively investigate” how their Las Vegas staff were able to miss all the parts required for a bomb inside someones bags making its way on a commercial flight.

JetBlue ramp worker nods off – wakes up in Boston in cargo hold

You just know the economy is in the crapper, when even airline workers have to become stowaways on their own flights.

Last week, a 21 year old JetBlue baggage handler dozed off on the job, which is something I probably do once or twice a week- except when I do it, I wake up with QWERTY key prints on my face.

When this guy woke up, he had traveled from JFK to Boston airport.

When ramp workers opened the cargo hatch in Boston, they initially thought they had discovered a stowaway, but quickly realized he was one of their colleagues.

The guy is lucky that the baggage hold is pressurized nowadays, and that the flight was only 37 minutes. Imagine being trapped in a cold cargo hold for a transatlantic flight without any $5 headphones or the option to purchase a $9 snack box!

Investigators are looking into how the incident happened, and will probably want to know why none of his co-workers noticed he went missing.
