What is it with kids today? They always have their hair in their eyes, scowls on their faces and loud music blasting in their iPods. Why all the angst? And why do they all smell like they sprayed an entire bottle of Abercrombie & Fitch cologne on themselves? I blame the MTV. Or maybe it’s that Justin Bieber. Speaking of which, who the hell is Justin Bieber? Anyways, it’s nice to see that emo haircuts and forlorn looks have made their way to rural Thailand. Flickr user AlphaTangoBravo / Adam Baker found this hipster in a hill town in Chiang Dao. I’m guessing he loves Twilight.

The best way to see a new place is to walk around. Wake up early, hit the streets and just wander. Through markets, up hills to scenic lookouts and through tiny neighborhoods that allow you to really see how people live. But all of that shopping, wandering, strolling and sightseeing can really wreak havoc on your feet. Sometimes you just need to sit your ass down, stay still for a while and let everyone else do the walking while you simply watch. That’s why, when you finally see a bench, it’s like a mirage in the desert. This photo by Flickr user flicts makes me so happy. There’s nothing like a well-placed bench after a day of being dragged around to shops, ruins and unforgiving cobblestone streets. Except for maybe a well-timed churro.

Seen any good spots to pop a squat? Why not add them to our Gadling group on Flickr? We might just pick one of yours as our Photo of the Day.

There’s nothing worse than being underdressed for a party. You’re embarrassed, your hosts are appalled and the other guests don’t know whether to shun you or mock you. That’s why I always pack at least one sophisticated outfit when I travel. A nice sweater, a classic hat and a jaunty scarf go a long way towards making you both presentable and interesting. Sure, real estate in your pack is at a premium, but if you leave out two of your ironic (but funny only to you) t-shirts and pack a classic Oxford and half-decent shoes instead, you can accept nearly any invitation that comes your way.

Take this pooch that Flickr user Luke Robinson encountered in Peru. No bouncer is going to deny this canine entry. From swanky clubs to Michelin rated restaurants, the world is this handsome fella’s oyster. Until he shits on the rug.

Many years ago, I went to a baseball game that started at 1:05pm. I arrived at noon to avoid the crowds, get something to eat and enjoy the afternoon sun. When I arrived, a very intoxicated man was getting thrown out of the stadium for making a scene. I was impressed horrified that he could get so drunk so early in the day. He wasn’t just buzzed. This was a man who had clearly started drinking early in the morning with the intent to show off his knowledge of curse words. I never really understood getting that drunk at sporting events. After paying for tickets, parking, food and souvenirs, it’s an incredibly expensive activity. I want to enjoy that investment and not spend my money on bad $7 beer.

That’s why I love this photo by Flickr user ncarling. There’s something serene about it. It’s as if everyone there truly cares about the game and its outcome. Well, of course they do. They’re Cubs fans. Every year holds the promise of forgetting the past and finally celebrating a championship. I just hope that they celebrate responsibly. Getting drunk is expensive.

Who doesn’t want to have a big back yard? Everyone loves a place of their own with a nice lawn, room to play ball with the kids and barbecue when you invite your friends over. And don’t even get me started on the perks of privacy. I, like many of you, enjoy suntanning in the nude. So, you know, it’s nice when your closest neighbors are nowhere in site. This guanaco is surely the envy of the neighborhood with his sprawling yard space. Flickr user fiznatty captured this scene in Patagonia, a pretty epic backyard.
