Video: Climbing In Thailand

Unbeknownst to me prior to today, Eddie Bauer has a Vimeo channel complete with impressive adventure videos – including climbing shots. I happened upon the above video, which features climbers scaling walls in Thailand. The rock is jagged, steep and bolts out of the ocean. Oceanside climbing seems to be a bonus for these climbers, though. Part of this video shows the climbers falling, intentionally or unintentionally, into the teal waters beneath their climbing spots. I’m a little bit ashamed to say that I haven’t tried rock climbing yet. There are many purportedly excellent climbing locations in and around Austin. After watching this video, I think I’ll have to try it out. Next stop: Thailand!

Video Of The Day: Venezuelan Skies Time-Lapse

This time-lapse video featuring Venezuelan skies and aptly named “Venezuelan Skies” just brightened my day. A recent addition to Vimeo with very few plays (5 total plays as I write this), this gem deserves to be seen. Upbeat music is paired with captivating images in this video. Swirling clouds in Venezuela and fog soar above beautifully colored scenery. Large rock formations are juxtaposed against vivid vegetation as the video continues. Once this video begins to near its end, the time-lapse transitions into the gorgeous nighttime sky, complete with the occasional blurred artificial light. Take the time to watch this video by monoelemento on Vimeo and you’ll be glad you did. Spoiler: there’s a helicopter!

Video: Berlin street aesthetic

The Street Aesthetic of Berlin from Christian Andersen on Vimeo.

If you have ever wondered what the general Berlin street aesthetic is like, filmmaker Christian Andersen wants to show you. Sun rays, busy street corners, gliding boats, quick-moving trains, urban street art, and the city’s lights at night all make appearances in this visceral video–among other Berlin staples, of course. Although I have never been to Berlin, I have been considering moving there for a short period of time based entirely off of the lovely things I have heard from trusted sources and the ever-deepening well of beautiful footage taken in the city, like this video, available online. Have you been to or lived in Berlin? Are you there right now? Do you feel like this Andersen’s work with this piece adequately captures the Berlin street aesthetic in under two minutes?

Las Vegas: 1966

Vimeo user Jeff Altman did a great digitizing some old school 16mm Kodachrome for the above video about Las Vegas. The muted colors, wonky film speeds and vintage architecture make a great throwback to the simpler days of unabashed, Vegas fun, before the current era of crowd engineering, headlining shows and unbridled excess. Mix in a cooling, modern soundtrack and the product is three and a half minutes of grade A nostalgia. Nice work Jeff.
