For Snowboard Snobs

Our sister site Luxist, which covers all things decadent and expensive, has got
this posting about a beautiful bamboo snowboard called the
Indigo. I can definitely imagine carving sweet turns with this thing, and then maybe hanging it on the wall like a
piece of art when I get home. The only problem, hence why it was on Luxist, is it retails for $1220.

Well, excess ain’t cheap.

Lift Ticket Insurance?

Who knew? Say you’ve bought that season pass at
Vail – which, I might add can run you well over a thousand
smackers -  but sadly you break a leg. Or get sick. Or land that job in the tropics. Can you get your money back
for all that unused ski time? Apparently so. According to
this piece in Outside.com, you can actually get
lift ticket insurance from
Skier Insurance Services. The cost of the insurance is six percent of the season pass, but this also comes with $15,000
in emergency evacuation insurance and $10,000 of accidental death/dismemberment coverage.

Again: who knew?

Film Yourself Doing Insane Things

Or just sitting around in your pajamas (which, face it, would be
pretty boring…unless, of course, you’re Hugh Hefner and your hot tub is full of centerfold models…Hugh, baby, call me.
I’ve got a reality show idea for you!). Either way, this handy head cam is the
kind of thing you want when you’re BASE-jumping El Capitan, snowboarding, skydiving (Richard Branson apparently used
one of them) or whatever else you do that you think others might want to watch from your POV.

To get a feel for what the camera does, check out the gallery, which has got a bunch of video spots in it. And hey,
who knows, someone might be interested in your “day in the life” biopic sitting around in yuor jammies..don’t know who,
though. Maybe your kids.

Design Your Own Snowboard

With many feet of
freshie falling in the
West, maybe it’s time for a new snowboard. But are you sick of all the designs out there, or are you an aspiring artist
eager to forge your own board design from endless pages of doodles? Then check out
this site, which lets you do just that…or you
can pick from a fairly extensive collection of other art that’s posted on the site. Very cool.

Too bad they never did this for skis.

Hey, which reminds me. Remember that story I posted about the Motorola Jackets with blue tooth?
Engadget has got a HUGE photo of the jacket and the
arm-based blue-tooth control device (ABBTCD – prounounced AAH-bee-tack-ed). Looks very cool…but it better be sturdy. If
it’s as fragile as my ipod, not sure I’d want one.

Calligrapee

Women are the superior gender, but there are some advantages to being male. Among them, avoiding the pain of
childbirth, a propensity towards loving cigars, and peeing your name in the snow. Not exactly engaged travel-related,
but kind of ski/snowboard-related, since it’s about snow (in fact, I’m filing it under skiing),
this site offers anyone the opportunity, albeit
“virtually”, to pee in the snow. Now there are those who are going to find this crass and distasteful. And they’re
right. But you have to admit…real or virtual, peeing in the snow is a hoot. My only complaint: not enough fonts to
choose from.
