Gadlinks for Friday 9.25.09

Talk about good luck! I arrived home on Wednesday and promptly hit the water for a surf with my buddies. Then yesterday a decent southern swell came through and, more importantly, the first significant swell of the season also made its way to the North Shore. My excitement alone has me thinking and dreaming of waves. In honor of the great sport of surfing, here are some pretty sweet surf travel reads for you this Friday.

‘Til Monday, have a great weekend!

Gadlinks for Tuesday 9.22.09

Hey there, Gadling faithful. Here’s a look at what’s going on in the travel world today…

  • World Hum chats with “burly culinary adventurer” Andrew Zimmern about his new show Bizarre World.
  • Brave New Traveler debunks some myths about the future of airline travel, including pay toilets (which I defended here), standing-room-only “seats”, and the 1,000-passenger plane.
  • This article could also be titled “The 7 best places in the world for me to crap my pants.”
  • The Onion reports on a new national parks website that threatens to make actual national parks obsolete. Also from The Onion, Haiti appears to be making a bid for the 2216 Olympics.
  • Slate offers some great photos of Ramadan from around the world, with an accompanying article here. The month-long Muslim holiday ended a few days ago.

Gadlinks for Friday 9.18.09

I’m both happy and sad that it’s Friday: happy because this begins my final weekend on the mainland before I head home after two months of travel; sad because I have to say goodbye to my adorable nephew. Every Friday brings something new and exciting, so does the world and so do these interesting reads for this Friday installment of Gadlinks. Enjoy!

  • I love traveling to remote places in the world. Here’s just a sneak peek at a few of Earth’s final frontiers. [via Open Travel]
  • Even grown adults (such as myself) can’t get enough of Harry Potter, so to quench that thirst a bit Universal Studios in Orlando is opening a Harry Potter Theme Park next spring complete with a Hogwarts School, Hog’s Head Pub, and more. Hooray! [via Faster Times]
  • Maybe it’s because my cousins are on a safari of their own that I happened upon this. Check out these 6 ways to see endangered species without endangering them anymore. [via Treehugger]
  • And finally, if you’re brave enough and have the stomach enough, then give these weird foods from around the world a try. [via BootsNAll]

‘Til Monday, have a great weekend!
